Subhashree Pattnaik is a leading dancer and choreographer in the classical Indian dance form of Odissi, Kuchipudi and Bharatanatyam . With extensive training under the leading Gurus of Odissi, Guruji Durga Charan Ranvir , Guru Dr.Smt Sneha Prava Samantray and Guruji Late Padmasri Gangadhar Pradhan , Subhahsree is today recognized for her artistry, technique, eloquence and characteristic energy that mark every performance.
Subhashree has also explored other form of Indian Classical dance with extensive training under the leading Gurus of Kuchipudi, Guru Padmasri Sobha Naidu and Guru D Balaji Kumar And trained Bharatanatyam under Guru Pashumurthy Ramalingam Shastri and Guru Sruti Vinodini.
Her concept of the intangible embraces the divine and the profoundly human love and freedom, truth and beauty being as cosmically mystical as God. This inspires wonderful excursions into the heart of rhythm, the energies of light, the ambience of space, the structures of movement and the power of stillness.
She was never satisfied with just the technique or the kinetics of dance. She wanted to explore – the space around her, the energy as a driving force, the innumerable patterns forming kaleidoscopic extensions, the colours, moods and just about everything. Her concerns were of larger images outside her own little frail being.
Her solo performances and group ensembles, in Odissi, Kuchipudi as well as Bharatanatyam have received critical acclaim at leading festivals all over the world.
Her desire to dance and create dance was born out of an atmosphere of freedom, an ambience in which ideas and imaginations were encouraged to flow and flower.
She first started dancing at the age of 5 on Odissi form. With her immense passion, hardwork and dedication she has completed her Master Degree in Odissi Dance and stood top in her University (Utkal Sangeeta Mahavidyalaya),Bhubaneswar and now she is continuing her Phd in Odissi dance in Culture University, Bhubaneswar. She has also a Master degree in Kuchipudi and Bharatynam dance. She usually says that from her Gurus, she learnt to love dance as though it were human, to feel its all-encompassing beauty, to centre herself within her body. Subhashree says there has never been a contradiction between the different forms of dance in her mind. Like people who roam the world to explore its remotest corners and hope to fathom what lies beyond the earth, the solar system, the universe, she love to travel through her body and her mind, through different form of dances and to let these parts travel through different parts of space, to explore new places, new routes, divergent avenues. Is it possible to watch the space within oneself, just as you watch the space outside?”
